With the idea to use it mainly on ultralight, Tonti has also devised a W4, which was in effect constituted by two two-cylinder V 90 °, placed one behind the other, with one and the same base, and suitably staggered so to ensure excellent cooling even the heads and cylinders of the "row" back. The project, with the maximum compactness and lightness, foresaw the use of two counter-rotating crankshafts, engaged with each other by means of a pair of gears.
